Alternate ideas

Alternate ideas

After beginning to create my final pieces, I started thinking about the alternate final pieces and ideas I could have created instead.

For example, I could have gone further with the Indigenous re-connection concept and looked at how first world societies re-connect with Indigenous societies and cultures, comparing the two and defining our society in different images. I could have also looked at Chris Offili, an artist who creates portraits and 3D pieces using elephant feces, his own hair and teeth.

At the start of this project, I had a vague idea of what I wanted to create. Originally, I had aimed to create a final piece that was more illustrative and used more animated drawings of Indigenous people with more green fluid painting in the background. I was looking to create animated full body portraits of Indigenous people in small scale of probably only 30x30cm in the style of Steve Cutts, an artist who I had already heard of and seen the work of before the project. However, after looking at Jason Liosatos's work, I was hugely influenced by his realistic portraits through use of dark, gritty tones and soft tints.

I could have also looked to create something 3D based if I had been influenced by Offili's work and studied more into how Indigenous people celebrate nature by creating ritualistic clothing or jewelry that I had already observed at the Plymouth museum
